It’s been a long time since Dave Chappelle was a weekly staple in my comedy diet. Chappelle’s Show brought people together and made us all laugh at jokes other comedians not only couldn’t dream of, but wouldn’t say out loud if they had.
Other shows have tried to capture the magic of Dave Chappelle, but were either short lived or quickly forgotten.
For years it seemed like Chappelle would never reappear in the public eye, leaving millions who loved him to relive his genius in reruns and millions more to never know the excitement and anticipation that came with the announcement of a new Dave Chappelle special.
Netflix has changed that.
In November, Netflix announced that they would be airing 3 brand new Chappelle stand up specials, but didn’t mention when.
“Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy — searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential. Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy.”
-Lisa Nishimura, Netflix Vice President of original documentary and comedy
What does this mean for fans? It means that when these specials go live, people like me will sit through their entirety on the first day.
