Legend of Zelda (NES) – complete overworld map 3D printed, painted, and awe inspiring

It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.

What you see above is mind numbingly awesome. It is a 3D printed, then hand painted, overworld map from the original NES Legend of Zelda.

The map even looks like an 8-bit rendering because it was originally created in Minecraft, a process that took 6 months. It then occupied a 3D printer for 24 hours before being hand painted over 6 hours. It was then sold for the paltry sum of about $100. For the amount of time and effort that went into this, that just boggles my mind.

While the creator’s name has yet to surface, Kotaku reported that the buyer was Willard McFarland. It is widely speculated around QtW that Mr. McFarland is the object of much envy.

*** Update: Envy confirmed ***

Check out several more images after the break.
